Shawl

There can be few of us these days who are not more than a little concerned about the state of our planet. At the same time as using up the Earth's natural resources at an alarming rate, we continue to belch out poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere and produce millions of non-biodegradable products. As a population, however, increasing numbers of us are turning to more environmentally friendly alternatives wherever possible, in order to 'do our bit' for Planet Earth.

Although most of us women would dearly love to be able to go through our closets at each change of season and treat ourselves to a whole new collection of fabulous clothes, the reality is that we simply cannot afford it. Indeed, in many cases, when we check out our wardrobes we find items that we have had for years and which we still drag out from time to time. Often, these are things which are still in very serviceable condition, but they are also ones which we have grown tired of over time.

It's the same every year; the first of the Christmas goods start appearing in the stores and the Christmas advertisements begin appearing on the television and most of us are hit with a mini wave of excitement. There are all those parties to look forward to, all those family members and friends to spend time with and, bliss oh bliss, that much-needed break from work.

A shawl, especially in a high-end fabric such as cashmere, will always show a sense of elegant no matter the current fashion trend. You can always change up exactly how you put on your shawl to keep it completely current. Scarves are the sort of accessories that never go out of fashion. They have been around for over many years and even when you open a magazine today; you can see your favorite celebrity sporting a beautiful head scarf.

Elegance: that hard to define quality; that 'je ne sais quoi' that some women just seem to be naturally blessed with and others spend their lives trying to achieve. There is a special air about an elegant woman which shows itself in everything from the way she carries herself, to her hairstyle and what she chooses to wear. Whether she is walking around the mall or spending a night out at the opera, she looks perfect, faultless, immaculate.

Ask men of all origins about who are the most beautiful women and you can guarantee that most will include several of the world's most gorgeous black ladies in their list. With their huge dark eyes, full lips and typically flawless skin in a whole range of shades from honey to deep ebony, it is no wonder that black women have such enormously seductive appeal. Aside from the other naturally beautiful features that they are born with, the skin tones of black women in many ways leaves them at a huge advantage over their paler skinned counterparts.

Most of us ladies put a fair amount of time and effort into our appearance and, of course, we want the end result to be nothing short of immaculate. With hair beautifully styled, make-up perfectly applied and clothes fresh, clean and neatly pressed, we can face the world with confidence and in the knowledge that we are looking at our glorious best. If something is not quite right though, it is surprising just how much it can affect our self-assurance.

Almost without exception there comes a point in a woman's life when she could just kick herself for having thrown out those treasured items of clothing and accessories which had long since gone out of fashion, because of course they nearly always come back in at some point. It might take a few years and we might not be the same size or shape that we were when we wore them originally, but still our daughters or grand-daughters would have killed for them. The world of fashion, just like the world of music, has always moved in circles.

The skeptics might like to think of Mother's Day as just another opportunity for cold, hard-nosed business people to separate us from our hard-earned cash, but this is one of those occasions that not only the nation, but many countries around the world have really taken to heart. Perhaps because of all the people in our lives it is our moms that we take for granted the most, the chance to honor them comes as a welcome opportunity rather than a chore.

While there are, of course, a number of professions which require a uniform to be worn as the standard code of dress, most working women have a choice as to their workplace attire. Where this is the case, there are actually very, very few instances when what they wear is not of some importance because most jobs these days, and particularly those in the service industries, involve coming into contact with customers and clients and the impression that we make on these individuals can make a big difference in terms of whether they choose to do business with us or our companies or not.

Selecting clothing and accessories which will be appropriate for the workplace is always a careful balancing act and even sometimes means making a complete departure from what we might choose to wear in our free time. We want to put across an impression of total professionalism and respectability, but at the same time we don't want our own personalities and tastes to be entirely swamped. If deciding what to wear on a normal office day can be tricky though, then choosing something suitable for a corporate event can be very much more difficult.

Like so many other things, attitudes towards pregnant women have, in most cases, changed enormously over the decades. Although it does still happen in some countries that they are hidden away until after the delivery, this tends to be the exception rather than the rule nowadays. Whether they are out shopping, socializing or at work, pregnant women today are very much on show and, of course, every bit as interested in looking their glowing best as every other woman.

Trying to choose a gift for that special lady in his life is most men's nightmare, and not least because he knows that it is not just the gift itself which will come under the close scrutiny of his beloved, but the care and attention which he has put into his choice. Choose badly and he could be accused of being thoughtless, uncaring or of not knowing her well enough. Choose something which lacks quality and taste and she might assume that he does not think she is worth any better.

Receiving gifts from friends, family and loved ones on a birthday, at Christmas time and for anniversaries is something that we all appreciate, and presents which are offered for no particular reason other than to brighten our day or to demonstrate that we are loved are probably even more special. Those that we give to ourselves, however, are in some ways the most precious of all, because they speak of self-respect and the recognition that we ourselves think that we are worth it. The women of today live remarkable lives and we wear oh so many different hats.

The only constant factor in the world of fashion is change. As we all know fashion keeps changing practically every minute and people strive to keep up with the new trends all the time. Now fashion does not involve just clothes and its accessories alone, whether it is for man, woman or child. New trends in urban fashion permeate into all the different aspects of a person's life, be it in the home, the office or places of entertainment.
